George Charles Parker, Jr. age 86 of Santa Fe formerly of La Marque, passed from this life to the next Sunday, April 3, 2011 at RegentCareCenter in League City. Funeral services are 3:30 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Carnes Funeral Home 3100- I 45 North in Texas City, the Reverend John Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at GalvestonMemorial park in Hitchcock. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
George was born in Bexar County, Texas, on August 29, 1924. His parents were George Charles Parker Sr. and Louise Mather Parker who preceded him in death.
Before graduating BallHigh School, he enlisted in the US Navy serving our country during WWII in the South Pacific campaign. He was assigned to the USS John Penn and survived the torpedo attack and the sinking of the USS John Penn at Guadalcanal and went on to receive ten more battle stars while serving on the USS President Hayes. Upon discharge, he returned and graduated at BallHigh School in Galveston and attended the University of Houston. Mr. Parker also served an additional four years in the National Guard.
George retired as a lifetime member of the International Association of Bridge & Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers union. He was an avid baseball fan and loved playing golf but loved his grandchildren first.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his brother Richard Farr, his former wife Ann Langston Parker and his grandson Elisha Paul Elliott. He is survived by his children Patty Parker Elliott and husband John, George Charles (Buddy) Parker III, Karen Parker Lee and husband Carl; grandchildren John Elliott III, Elisabeth Elliott, Bethany Parker, Shannon Parker, Bryan Lee and Elyssa Lee Sonnier; great grandchildren Morgan Elliott, George Mason Sawyer, Logan Lee and Lincoln Parker Lee.
Pallbearers are John Elliott III, Bryan Lee, Chris Sonnier, Adam Flores, Carl Lee and Buddy Parker.
