METRO PARTNERS WITH BETTER BLOCK HOUSTON
TO CREATE THE PERFECT STREET BLOCK
WHO: METRO Board Member Christof Spieler and METRO staff to join Community Artists’ Collective, Planners Revolution and ECOTONE in staging a ‘complete street’ for a day.
The idea is to help communities visualize what a sustainable, perfect block would look like, complete with infrastructure in place that would make it easy for pedestrians, motorists, bicyclists and transit riders to travel the area safely.
WHAT: Hot Block on Holman
WHEN: Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
WHERE: Holman & La Branch near Baldwin Park
METRO staff will be on hand between 12 noon – 3 p.m. to give the community an overview of its transit services, explain how one can ride the system and how to use its Q Card Fare Card payment system. METRO personnel will also present a video demonstration of next-bus arrival signs – an enhanced feature currently available on the 402 Quickline Bellaire route, and one METRO hopes to provide on other routes in the future.
The 42 Holman has six stops along the event area. METRO will operate hybrid vehicles along the route and change the buses’ destination signs to read “42 Holman via Hot Block on Holman” in celebration of the national Better Block movement to improve neighborhoods.
