Celia Garate Gonzalez

Celia Garate GonzalezCelia Garate Gonzalez, 82, went peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2011, surrounded by loved ones.  She was born January 27, 1927, in Matamoros, Tamps, Mexico.  Celia was a longtime resident of Galveston and made her life’s work being a wonderful, supportive mother.  She was a rock and a fortress and the best mom anyone could ask for.  She will be terribly missed but will always live on in our hearts.

 

Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Gilberto, and her three brothers.  She is survived by her daughters, Maricela Wilson and husband, David; Nidia Vickers and husband, Darrin; sons, John Gonzalez and wife, Patricia; and James Gonzalez; grandchildren: Dr. Kevin Viehbeck and wife, Kelly; Abel Salas, Jr.; Sandra Gumler and husband, Paul; Nathan Vickers; Sarah Gonzalez and Robert Bottoms; Jason, Jeremy, Josh, and James Gonzalez; great grandchildren: Claire, Zyane, Justice, and Alayna; sister, Maria Garate Gomez; brother, Roberto Garate and wife, Esperanza; sister-in-law, Mela Cano; best friend, Carmen Milina; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 

Celia’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Monday, April 11th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  A rosary will be held at 6:00 pm.

 

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 12th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston.

 

Pallbearers will be Robert Garate, Eugene Garate, Jason Gonzalez, Nathan Vickers, Jeremy Gonzalez, and Zyane Gumler.  Honorary pallbearers will be Enrique Garza, Dr. Kevin Viehbeck, and Alberto Gonzalez.

 

Celia’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff of Island Dialysis and Bay Oaks Care Center for their special care and attention.
