Harris County Sheriff's Office
News Release
Thursday, April 14, 2011

HOUSTON – Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Homicide Investigator Shawn Carrizal announced during a media briefing on Wednesday the identification of a female that was found in a barrel October 2010.

The victim, Stacie Lutz, was identified through the comparison of a DNA match from her identical twin sister who was also murdered. Deputy Carrizal spent five months researching the identity of the victim and found her twin sister had been murdered in 1990 and is currently a cold case being handled by the Houston Police Department (HPD).

An advanced technique to extract DNA from the victim’s skeletal remains was conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and compared to the DNA from her murdered sister. Stacie Lutz was positively identified on April 6, 2011. “I had to take it day by day, and all the work paid off,” said Deputy Carrizal.

The victim’s husband, Dennis Anderson, was suspected in killing Lutz. After Deputy Carrizal discovered the barrel, Anderson fled to Florida where he was later found dead in a hotel room on Oct. 29, 2010. Investigators said Anderson left a suicide note confessing to the murder of his wife. It is believed Lutz was murdered more than 10 years ago.

“It felt good to call the family and let them know their loved one had been identified,” said Carrizal.
