CONGRESS AVENUE BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION WILL CLOSE SECTIONS OF SMITH STREET
“IH 10 HOV Lane will open to all passenger vehicles”

(Houston) – The Texas Department of Transportation will close Smith Street between Franklin and Congress beginning Thursday, April 28 at 10 a.m. through July 26. The 90 day closure is necessary to reconstruct the Congress Avenue Bridge. 

Motorists exiting IH 10 East to downtown can make the one block detour by continuing south on Smith Street, making a right on Franklin and a left back on to Congress. Officers will be on site the first few days to facilitate traffic movement as motorists acclimate to the closure. The IH 10 HOV lane will also be open to all passenger vehicles. 

Motorists will experience significant delays and should consider an alternate route.
