Coast Guard searches for two missing swimmers off South Padre Island
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews continue to search for two people who went missing near the beach on South Padre Island, Thursday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station South Padre Island received a call at approximately 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, from the legal guardian of two of the three persons missing in the water at Isla Blanca Park.
A MH-65C Dolphin Rescue Helicopter and crew from Air Station Corpus Christi was dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:05 p.m., and three small boats and crews from Station South Padre Island were also dispatched to search for the men.
A 22 year-old man was recovered by the South Padre Island Fire Department and later pronounced deceased. An 18 year-old man and and a 12 year-old boy are still missing. Family members said the three were swimming and then disappeared.
The Coast Guard continued the search throughout the night with both surface and air assets and is continuing the search today.
