Carl was born May 12, 1926, in Hemphill, TX to the union of Rufus and Florence Holmes Simmons. He was a retired landscaper and custodian and was a member of the American Legion Gus Allen Post. He volunteered at UTMB for over 10 years and was well known for his cooking, fishing and playing pool.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ellar Wease; son, retried Master Sgt. Herman Reece; brother, Leonard Simmons.  He is survived by his son, Carl Simmons, Jr.; daughters, Gwendolyn Simmons, Fay Hadnott (Ronnie) and Patrice Simmons-James (Holden); six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will begin at 9AM Saturday, April 30th, at First Union Baptist Church, followed by funeral service  at 11:00 AM with Pastor David L. Everson, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
