Houston Firefighters responded to an apartment on fire in the 2500 block of Westridge Street about 6:30 p.m., yesterday, May 3, 2011. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire showing from one side of the building and made an offensive attack on the fire. More than 70 personnel responded to the incident which was tapped out at 7:10 p.m. An occupant of the apartment of origin was transported to the hospital for burns. The fire caused about $37,000 in damage and is currently under investigation by HFD Arson investigators.
This morning , May 4, 2011, at about 3:40 a.m. Houston firefighters were dispatched to another apartment fire at 7700 Corporate. Firefighters arrived on scene in less than five minutes and found heavy fire coming through the roof of a 2-story apartment building at the El Paraiso Apartments. More than 200 personnel responded to the 2-alarm fire which was tapped out at about 5:20 a.m. Firefighters contained the majority of the fire to one building, with eight units. A firewall also helped to stop the spread of the fire. Neighborhood Protection was called to demolish the building and the American Red Cross is assisting those families affected by the fire. One citizen was treated for breathing problems. The cause of this fire is also currently under investigation by HFD Arson investigators.
