It is with great respect and love that we announce the passing of Ashton C. Whtiby Jr. after a lengthy illness.
Ashton affectionally known as “AC” was the second child born to the late Ashton, Sr. and Martha Whitby. He grew up in Galveston, where he accepted Christ at an early age and attended Spiritual True Church. “AC” attended Galveston Public Schools where he made local history at his high school by being the first football player ever to be recruited by the University of Hawaii to play football. While there he received his Bachelor’s degree.
“AC” had a passion of helping disabled people. His was employed for over 20 years at U.T.M.B. in the Recreational Therapy Department.
“AC” leaves with cherished memory, his loving and devoted wife, Danette Whitby; daughter, Kristen Nicole (Shane) Bermuda; sons, Ashton III (League City); Austin Charles (League City); brothers, Lionell (Vivian); Kevin; sister, Shibohn (Johnny); devoted uncles, Roland Thomas and James Stanley, Sr.; and a host of loving relatives and friends too numerous to name.
Viewing will begin today at 4PM followed by a wake from 7-8PM at Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary. A service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Mt Olive Baptist Church (3602 Ave I), Rev. N.D. Burkley, Pastor, Rev. Cedric Ansley officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
