Kelly Dean to perform at ACC Alvin Live event
News Release
Friday, May 13, 2011

Experience an unforgettable, intimate evening of great live jazz with the Kelly Dean Group during the first public “Alvin Live” event at Alvin Community College on June 9.

Dean has performed with popular artists such as Ray Charles, Kenny Rogers and Frankie Valli and jazz artists Terence Blanchard, Charlie Haden, Mike Smith and many more.

“Kelly Dean has a great reputation as an all-around performer, somebody that can play the great jazz standards along with many other styles of music,” said Bill Lewis, chair of ACC Broadcast Communications Department. “I’ve seen him perform a few times in person and he always puts on a great show.”

“When we first started looking at artists that we could bring in, Kelly was one of the first names that was mentioned,” he continued. “I consider us very fortunate that he worked with us to accommodate our schedule and I’m sure it will be a memorable evening of music.”

Hosted by the ACC Foundation to raise funds to benefit scholarships and the Broadcast Communications Department, Alvin Live will be held in the new 60-seat uniquely designed teaching and performance venue in Building K, which has been compared to the well-known Austin City Limits, and features a warm atmosphere and impeccable sound.

“Guests of Alvin Live will get the rare opportunity to be up close and personal with the musicians and be involved in a private performance reminiscent of the small jazz clubs that started it all decades ago,” ACC Foundation Executive Director Wendy Del Bello expressed. “Add to that wine and hors d’oeuvres with the great music and cozy setting and it’s going to be a relaxing and uplifting evening.”

In addition to providing the community with unique and quality enrichment opportunities, Alvin Live was developed primarily to help ACC students.

“Budget issues are creating challenges for colleges throughout the state and some of those expenses are being passed on to students in the form of higher tuition and fees,” Lewis said. “It’s important that we try to find alternative scholarship sources for some of our best students to try and ease the burden for them.”

“We are always looking for new revenue that can provide more scholarship opportunities for our students,” he added. “Many students here at ACC have made significant life changes in order to attend college and some struggle financially because of that; anything we can provide to help pay a portion of their expenses is always appreciated by the student.”

Tickets for the Alvin Live performance, featuring the Kelly Dean Group, are $30 each. Tickets are limited, so reservations should be made as soon as possible. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, call (281) 756-3600. ACC is located at 3110 Mustang Road.
