Friendswood Independent School District
Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Monday, May 16, 2011

The Friendswood Independent School District Board of Trustees on Friday voted unanimously to increase paid lunch prices by $0.05 for the 2011-2012 school year.

The increase is required by federal mandate under the 2010 Health Hunger-Free Kids Act.  Friendswood ISD currently charges $2 per paid lunch at Cline , Westwood, Bales and Windsong elementary schools, which will be increased to $2.05 for the next school year.  The increase does not impact Friendswood Junior High or Friendswood High School, as the district does not receive federal funds for lunches at those schools.

The school board voted unanimously to approve changes and additions to fee rates for non-school use of school facilities, with an opportunity to review and modify fees at a later date.

The fees include non-profit and for-profit use of facilities such as the stadium, gymnasium and the new natatorium.  Fee Schedule

“Facility rental costs for FISD have not been updated since 1996,” Superintendent Trish Hanks said.  “Current facility costs are not covering the cost to the District to rent facilities to outside groups.  The District’s utility and operational costs have increased, and many new facilities have been added.”

The school board voted unanimously to reschedule the July 11 school board meeting to July 18.  The change was made to allow more time for district staff to prepare information for the meeting as the district will be closed the entire week of July 4.

The school board took no action on the second reading of a policy regarding bullying.

The school board voted unanimously to approve various projects utilizing bond funds.  The item was approved with amendments.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote.  All members were present.  Agenda
