Jim Guidry Commentaries
Harris County
Port of Houston Authority
by Jim Guidry
Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Port of Houston Chair James Edmonds and CEO Alec Dreyer have sent a letter to Harris County District Attorney Patricia Lykos requesting an investigation of claims that officials and staff at the port have failed to comply with state law.

The request follows an announcement by Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan of an investigation of the port's operations to be conducted by his office.

In the letter to Lykos, Edmonds and Dreyer stated that it was important to "address this matter impartially and transparently".

"We look forward to working with you to complete this investigation, and again turning our full attention to continuing to grow the Port of Houston as a national and international maritime leader," Edmonds and Dreyer said.

PHA commissioners Janiece Longoria and Elyse Lanier have requested that Dreyer's performance be a subject of discussion at next week's regular meeting of the PHA Commission.

"He truly is not the right man for the job," Longoria said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle.
