The fate of on an $86,174,555 bond issue for College of the Mainland remains unclear as official counting of provisional ballots on the referendum continues today.
Voters cast their ballots on the bond issue on May 14, resulting in a two-vote difference on the bond issue, with 3,268 voting in favor and 3,270 opposed.
Counts of mail in ballots have reportedly placed the divide to the bond referendum failing by 15 votes.
The deadline to finalize the provisional vote count is Wednesday. A final result is expected then. The College of the Mainland Board of Trustees has scheduled a meeting for May 23. The board is expected to canvass votes on the bond and two positions on the board during the meeting.
