The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday to consider calling a second election to determine who will hold the board's District 7 seat.
The race between incumbent Dr. Bill Spillar and challenger Davey Jones came out as a tie after the May 14 General Election. On Wednesday, following counts of mail-in ballots and provisional votes, the results remained unchanged for the race, with each candidate holding 122 votes.
The board will meet on Monday to canvass the results of the election, and order a recount of the votes in the District 7 race, according to Director of Communications Denise McLean. The recount will take place on Tuesday morning. However, the board will meet again that evening to order the runoff election, which will be held on June 18 in a joint election with the City of La Marque, which also has a runoff race.
