College of the Mainland's $86,174,155 bond issue failed by a margin of 12 votes, after provisional ballots counted on Wednesday brought in three more votes in favor of the bond, but not enough to overcome votes against it.
The final count from the May 14 bond referendum was 3,282 votes in favor, with 3,294 opposed. On Monday, the issued had a margin of 15 votes against, following the count of mail-in ballots. On election night, the difference had only been two votes.
The final tally on two seats on the college's board of trustees also caused no change in the outcome, as margins were wide on both races. The board will hold a special meeting on Monday to canvass the election results. Roney McCrary will take the Position 5 seat on the board, after defeating incumbent Don Criss, and Wayne Miles, who defeated incumbent Annette Jenkins, will take Position 7.
