Clear Creek Independent School District
Former Clear Lake Grads Help Students Prep for SAT
News Release
Friday, May 20, 2011

Shawn Du, a rising sophomore at Princeton University, and Jenny Le, a rising sophomore at Harvard University, and have returned home this summer with a goal in mind: to get as many high school students from Clear Creek ISD ready to tackle the SAT and close the educational achievement gap. Both students graduated summa cum laude from Clear Lake High School last year and were also four-year Superintendent Scholars.

Du and Le are managing the Clear Lake branch of Revolution Prep Ivy Insiders, the nation’s largest on-campus test preparation provider, and will be teaching two classes starting June 18th and July 22nd and the Clear Lake City County-Freeman library this summer. Le said, "It’s unfortunate that test preparation is so expensive. I remember signing up for both Kaplan and Testmasters my freshmen and sophomore summers and spending more than $1,500 for both classes. Because of this, Shawn and I decided to offer an Ivy Exam Club that allows for students to take free proctored SAT exams every Saturday at the Freeman library as well as offering group and individual discounts. Our class is only $549 after the $50 discount compared to Testmasters’ $749 price tag."

"One of our main objectives this summer is also to help students understand the college admissions process better and to make sure that this is not just some corporate instructor regurgitating test preparation techniques. We’ve created an individual experience and want to not only be instructors, but also mentors and friends to our students as well," Du stated.

Both students have learned a tremendous amount of business experience from this endeavor and hope to apply it to their studies once they return to campus in August and September.

Du is majoring in Economics and also serves as a residential college social chair at Princeton. Le is majoring in Economics with a secondary in Government and is the Training Director at Small Claims Advisory Service, a non-profit social justice organization at Harvard.
