HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for a swimmer who went missing near Galveston Island, Tuesday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report from Galveston Beach Patrol at approximately 7:15 p.m. Monday, that a 23-year old male was swimming near 29th and Seawall with his friends, and never resurfaced.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and rescue crew from Air Station Houston, and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and crew from Station Galveston. 

The aircrew searched until sunset and the boat crew continued to search throughout the night for the missing swimmer. 

Air Station Houston launched the aircrew at first light to continue searching.

The Galveston Beach Patrol continues to perform beach patrols.
