United States Coast Guard
News Release
Tuesday, May 24, 2011

HOUSTON — For the second day in a row, the Coast Guard is searching for a missing swimmer off Galveston, Tuesday.

The missing swimmer, a 30-year old man, went missing while swimming near 59th St. and Seawall Blvd. in Galveston shortly before 4 p.m. A lifeguard saw the man swimming, and then lost sight of him.

The Coast Guard launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station Houston, and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and crew from Station Galveston. The Galveston Beach Patrol is participating in the search.

This search and rescue case is in addition to an ongoing case that began Monday.

"With the summer season and increased traffic, dangerous tides and surf can occur on Texas beaches," said Lt. Dennis Ryan, command duty officer in training at Sector Houston-Galveston. "The Coast Guard would like to remind beachgoers to swim with caution and to heed posted warnings and advisories from lifeguards."
