Galveston County
Election Recount
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, May 26, 2011

Ballots were recounted today at both La Marque Independent School District and College of the Mainland to give final counts to two close races from the May 14 General Election.

La Marque ISD incumbent Dr. Bill Spillar and Davey Jones remaine tied in the race for District 7, each with 122 votes, follwing the recount. The recount was automatically called after the board canvassed the votes on Monday. The board will meet tonight to re-canvass the results and consider calling a special election to break the tie.  Agenda

At College of the Mainland, a recount was requested for the college's $86,174,155 bond issue, which, after counting mail-in and provisional ballots, had been shown as failing by 12 votes, with 3,282 voting in favor and 3,294 opposed. The recount began this afternoon.
