Shirley Cleveland-Hughes went home to be with her Heavenly Father on May 27, 2011.
Shirley was born February 1, 1943, in Galveston to Garfield and Amelia Browning Kidd. She was a 1964 graduate of Central High School and worked as a seamstress with Pendleton Woolen Mills. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the Girls Rites of Passage, and also sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Garfield Kidd, Jr. and Theodore Simmons.
She is survived by her brothers, Howard Browning, Melvin (Judy) Simmons and Michael Kidd; sisters Laurie (William) Sowell and Stella (Gregory) Turner; two special cousins, Margarite Renchie and Pauline Edwards; god-daughter, Melissa Winston; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will begin at 9AM on Saturday, June 3, 2011, at Fellowship Baptist Church, followed be a life celebration at 11:00 AM with Rev. Lawrence Carter officiating, Pastor G.W. Singleton eulogist. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
