Campbell, Ross honored by SLC

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University baseball player Cameron Campbell and women’s soccer player Brittany Ross were among 24 student-athletes selected as 2010-11 Southland Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference announced Thursday.

Campbell and Ross each closed out their impressive careers by posting the highest grade-point averages among all graduating Lamar student-athletes.

Campbell, a mechanical engineering major, has been named to the SLC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in each of the last three seasons. An "Honors Program Graduate," Campbell will return to Lamar for his final year of eligibility next season as he pursues a minor in business. The Baytown, Texas, native, who has a 3.70 GPA, has played in 110 career games for the Cardinals, driving in 52 runs.

A native of Carrollton, Texas, Ross is an original member of the LU soccer program, and played in 57 games over her four-year career. Ross is pursuing a double major in exercise science and psychology, and has already been accepted into the physical therapy program at Duke University.

Ross, who had a 4.00 GPA, served as the campus chairman for the Relay for Life over the past two years. She recently received the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship from the Southland Conference, the conference’s ultimate academic honor for its top graduates.
