Galveston Island to Host Fireworks Every Night July 4th Weekend
Annual Independence Day Parade to be Held on Streets of Historic Downtown
GALVESTON, Texas – If you’re looking for a change of scenery to celebrate Independence Day, Galveston Island is just the place to make your holiday weekend a true get-a-way. From fireworks over the beach to a traditional hometown parade in the island’s historical downtown district, Galveston will offer a plethora of special activities July 1-4.
To kick off the fun, Moody Gardens will hold its Bands on the Sand concert series Friday, July 1 featuring local band Intercoastal Pirates followed by a fireworks display over Offatts Bayou. Moody Gardens will also host concerts and fireworks July 2 and 3. Each event will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Moody Gardens’ Palm Beach. Visit www.moodygardens.org for more information.
On the 4th of July, Galveston Island will celebrate with its annual downtown parade at 10 a.m. featuring a procession of floats, decorated military vehicles and performers. The parade will begin at Santa Fe and 25th streets and continue through downtown before ending at the Galveston Railroad Museum for a patriotic celebration with live music and refreshments. That evening, the island will host a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard. The beachfront fireworks display – sponsored by the Galveston Park Board of Trustees – will begin at 9:15 p.m.
Magic, comedy and Las Vegas-style illusions will entertain you 4th of July weekend at The Curt Miller Magic & Comedy Show coming to the Moody Gardens Hotel. On July 2, the island will host Movie Night on The Strand featuring a free showing of the film Ocean’s 11. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. at Saengerfest Park (23rd and Strand) in downtown Galveston.
The Galveston Island 4th of July parade will begin at Santa Fe and 25th Street and continue south on 25th Street to Postoffice Street, east on Postoffice Street to 21st Street, north on 21st Street to Strand, then west on Strand to 25th Street, ending at the starting point in front of the Railroad Museum.
