Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a female at 5429 Chennault at 9:55 p.m. Friday (June 17).
Joseph Ebby Davis, Jr. (b/m, DOB: 10-18-72) is charged with murder in the 180thState District Court. He is accused in the death of Sonya Wells, 37, of the above address, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer B. Evans and Officer L. Carballo reported:
Davis visited the above residence in an attempt to speak to his cousin, who was visiting the homeowner. Davis claimed his cousin owed him money and he wanted to know when his cousin planned on paying this money. Davis' cousin stated he was going to go to a nearby store and get the money. The homeowner then asked Davis to leave the front of his house. Davis confronted the homeowner, produced a gun and exited his weapon. The homeowner, a concealed handgun license holder, also produced a weapon. Davis then began firing multiple times at the homeowner. One bullet struck the steel garage door, traveled through the garage, into the utility room, through the sheet rock and then into the kitchen, striking the home-owner's wife, Sonya Wells. Ms. Wells was struck one time and collapsed in the kitchen. Family members called 911 and Houston Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased.
Davis later contacted HPD to file a criminal mischief report in order to document the damage to his vehicle from the earlier confrontation. Following questioning by HPD Homicide Division investigators, charges were filed against Davis for his role in the shooting.
