Breaking News: Burglar passes out before leaving with loot
Monday, June 20 around 12:27 a.m., an officer noticed a truck in the ditch behind a closed business in the 2400 block of W. Parkwood. The officer also noted that the doors to a diesel generator behind the building were open and diesel fuel spilled in the parking lot. As the officer approached the truck, he noticed that an air conditioner and several other large metal items were in the bed of the truck and a man appeared to be slumped over the wheel. Officers reached inside the truck and turned off the vehicle's running engine, then woke up the driver who still had his baggie of marijuana in the cupholder next to him. Officers later found cocaine inside the vehicle also. As the officers awakened the man, he became aggressive, was handcuffed and then read his rights.
Officers then started checking businesses in area and found several safety switch boxes damaged, an air conditioner unit missing from Moreno's restaurant and a diesel tank missing from the open generator. Other businesses had the safety switches for their air conditioner units turned off. In the bed of Arnold's truck was an air conditioner, a safety switch with 6 feet of copper wire, a satellite dish, a gas grill, and a 10-gallon diesel tank.
Brandon Eric Arnold, 24, of Alvin, is charged with felony Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 (cocaine). His bond is set at $40,000.
