City Narrows Field of Candidates for Police Chief to 11

Beaumont, Texas –City Manager Kyle Hayes today released a list of 11 finalists for the position of Beaumont Police Chief. The candidates are:

·        Louis Barrow
·        Jack Bragg Jr.
·        Mark Broome
·        Robert Burby
·        Phillip Jones
·        Vicki King
·        Sammy Kittrell
·        Mark Pierce
·        Alfonso Pizzano
·        George Schuldt
·        James Singletary

Interviews are expected to be held in August. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of 10 citizens selected by Hayes to ensure community input in the decision. According to state law, the City Council must confirm the final selection, which is expected to be decided sometime in September.

“I am extremely pleased with the quality of candidates who expressed interest in this position,” Hayes said. “I am confident that this group of finalists will yield a great chief who can build on our successes and make their own mark in this important job.”

Beaumont Police Chief Frank Coffin announced in March that he will retire effective Sept. 30.  Coffin, who has been a member of the city’s police force for nearly four decades, has been its chief since 2006.  The new chief will lead a department with approximately 300 employees and an annual budget of $30.6 million.
