Jamie’s House Charter School Principal David Jones was acquitted Thursday of a failure to report injury to a child charge in an incident at his school last year in which a teacher beat a student.
“I am glad to be vindicated,” Jones said. “I and other school officials acted appropriately and responsibly. Not only did we fire the teacher involved, we fired a second teacher for failing to report the incident to the school administration.”
The incident occurred last year when a teacher was caught on cell phone video beating a student in her class. Jones put the teacher on administrative duty when he found out about the incident and then terminated her when he saw the video.
“The charges against Jones and the school’s superintendent should never have been filed,” said Sylvester Turner, attorney for Jamie’s House. “Why charge the ones who are trying to resolve the problem?”
Jamie’s House Charter School will continue to provide education to children who have nowhere else to go.
