Volunteers needed for upcoming Independence Day event

The City of Pasadena’s upcoming 4th Fest event is the largest City-sponsored event of the year, involving many residents, groups and businesses. And it’s not too late to be a part of the event; the Volunteer Pasadena program still has openings for people who want to help with the celebration.

Assistance is needed in many areas. Volunteers can sign up to help run the many games in the event’s KidZone, which features many games, contests and prizes for kids of all ages. Any car enthusiasts who would like to lend a hand can sign up to help run the car and truck show, which will begin at noon.

Volunteer Pasadena manager Linda Morgan said whether a person would prefer something like distributing bottles of water or is the type of person who would be happier working in the middle of the action-packed water wars balloon area, there is something for everyone.

“We also have flexible shifts and accommodate just about any schedule,” Morgan said, adding that each volunteer receives a meal and a t-shirt at the event. “And it’s fun! Our volunteers typically help for a couple of hours, and then most of them stay to spend the rest of the time enjoying the games and attractions with their families.”

Another group that is responsible for making this annual event a success is our community sponsors. This year, that group includes Capital Bank, which donated $3,000 worth of advertising; Pasadena Health Center, which donated $2,547.60 worth of water for the event; Wal-Mart, which donated $2,500; and Waste Management, which donated $1,250 worth of needed supplies.

The 4th Fest will be held on Monday, July 4 from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Pasadena Convention Center. The event features a 20-minute long fireworks show, a BBQ cook-off, a petting zoo, a KidZone full of activities for the little ones, a water balloon war zone, games and prizes – just to name a few. This year, it will also include live entertainment by The Slags and a Car Crush event at 4:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

“If you’re interested in helping with the 4th Fest, there’s still time to call and sign up,” Morgan said. “This is a great event, designed for our entire community, and we would love nothing more than for the entire community to be a part of it.”
