Jimmie Avis Rodgers Blaylock CandiaJimmie Avis Rodgers Blaylock Candia, 90, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at her residence.  She was born December 16, 1920 in Mississippi, married, and had her children.  She then moved to Texas, where her last child, Beverly was born, the only Texan in the family.  Jimmie worked in the medical field most of her life, working at The Edinburg Hospital in the Valley before moving to Galveston in the 1950’s.  She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW.  Jimmie loved to go dancing with her friends on weekends.  She was the kindest, most loving person to those she knew.  She will be missed by everyone, most especially her poodle, Tex, who was by her side day and night.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth C. and Lorena Harrison Rodgers; brother, Travis Rodgers; sister, Opal Rodgers Salter; and husband, Joe V. Candia.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Mitchell; Annette Blaylock Billiot; Peggy Blaylock Davis and husband, Charles; and Beverly A. Blaylock; son, Wesley W. Blaylock, Sr.; grandchildren: Wayne, Barbara, James, Matthew, Jeramy, Wesley, Belinda, Joseph, Eric, Amy Jocelyn, and Benjamin Troy; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Meek; brothers, Rickey and Bobby Rodgers; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jimmie’s family will receive visitors beginning at 11:00 am, Friday, July 1st, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm, Friday, at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
