WORKSHOP TO REVIEW AND SOLICIT INPUT ON ELDERLY/DISABLED PROGRAM
HOUSTON - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) East Region will conduct a workshop to review and solicit comments on the draft Fiscal Year 2012 Section 5310 Elderly Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities Program. The East Region includes Beaumont, Bryan, Lufkin and Houston District areas.
The workshop will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in conference room 105 of TxDOT Houston District headquarters located at 7600 Washington Avenue, Houston TX 77007.
The Elderly Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities Public Transportation grant program provides funding to improve accessibility and mobility for the elderly and disabled. Local stakeholder forums or committees help plan and design the transportation services, which are operated by existing transit providers. The funds are awarded directly to the transit provider and may be used for eligible capital expenses, which include, but are not limited to:
• Acquiring transportation service from other local transportation providers
• Buses, vans or other public transportation vehicles
• Radios and communication equipment
• Vehicle shelters
• Wheelchair lifts and restraints
