Elenora Mildred SochaWith extreme sadness we announce the passing of Elenora Mildred Jetelina Socha at the age of 88 on July 2, 2011.  She was born to Matthew and Mary Jetelina in East Bernard, Texas in 1923.  She was a longtime resident of Galveston and a former resident of El Campo and Louise, Texas.

Elenora and her husband, Willie Socha, managed the Christie’s Beachcomber Restaurant on Stewart Beach in Galveston for 25 years.  She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church and K.J.Z.T.  She was a helper and friend to everyone in need.

Elenora was preceeded in death by her husband William Socha, Sr., her infant son David William, her brother John Jetelina, and sister Elsie Andel.

Survivors include her sister Mary Sebesta and husband Adolph, her brother Joe Jetelina and wife Evelyn,  her sons William Socha, Jr. and his wife Sue Ann, Tommy Socha, Michael Socha, Richard Socha, and Karl Socha; one daughter Debora Scott and husband Ken; grandchildren David Socha and his wife Linda, Shawn Socha and his wife Carmen, Raina Socha, Holly Socha, Evan Socha, Trevor Socha, and Jenna Socha; and 3 greatgrandchildren Jacob, Madeleine, and Mila.

She also leaves behind family friends Michael Trube and his wife Connie, Max Wilson of John’s Beach Service, the crew at Miller’s Landing Restaurant, Mary Simpton and Rosalie Smith and all of her friends at St. Patick’s Church, Ed and Juliette Russell, and especially all of the former employees and patrons of the fabulous Christie’s Beachcomber Restaurant including Ivy, Rosalva, and Francisco and many more too numerous to mention.

A special thanks goes to Karl’s foster parents, Chuck and Alison Gass, and to the staff at All the Little Things Count in Alvin for the care they have given to her son.

Her pallbearers will be her grandchildren:  David, Shawn, Holly, Raina, Evan, Trevor, and Jenna.  Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Trube, William Socha, Jr., and Johnny Jetelina.

Everyone would agree that it was an honor and a privilege to have known Elenora.  She is in God’s hands now.  May she rest in peace.

A service will be held in Galveston on Wednesday, July 6, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 5:00 in the evening  and the funeral will begin at 6:00.

Another service will be held in El Campo on Friday, July 8, at Triska Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral will begin at 3:00.  The burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.
