HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Blain and Senior Police Officer J. Robles reported:
According to witnesses, Olvera and his co-worker, Mr. Salinas-Segovia, drove to a convenience store at the above location in a white Ford van belonging to their employer. Both men then walked into the store, purchased beer and walked behind the store to drink. At some point, Olvera shot and killed Salinas-Segovia and then fled the scene on foot.
Further investigation determined earlier that day, Olvera had threatened two other people with a handgun in the 7500 block of Harrisburg but did not shoot them. He drove off in the van that he later left at the murder scene.
