Reward goes up for two Most Wanted fugitives
Featured July fugitives announced
Two Top 10 fugitives now have an extra $5,000 in cash added to their reward for the month of July.
One offender from the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list and one from the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list are featured each month in hopes the higher reward money from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division will generate additional tips. The higher reward amount will only be paid if the tip comes in the same month the fugitives are featured.
This month’s featured Top 10 fugitive is Gaspar Loya III. Loya’s reward is now up to $15,000 for the month of July. The 37-year-old has been wanted since 2000 on a variety of charges, including failure to register as a sex offender and escaping a Colorado jail. Last seen in Weslaco, he is considered armed and dangerous and his criminal history includes murder, indecency with a child, assault, burglary and forgery. For more information on Loya, view his wanted poster at: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/topTenFugitives.htm#.
The featured Most Wanted Sex Offender this month is Guillermo Chavez, 42, who was last seen in El Paso and disappeared in 2002 after failing to register as a sex offender. His reward increases to $6,000 for any tips this month that lead to his arrest. Chavez was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child in 2001. The victims ranged in age from 6 to 10 years old. Chavez has three outstanding warrants from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office: failure to register as a sex offender, probation violation and DWI. For additional information, view Chavez’ wanted poster at: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/sexoffenders/topTenSexOffenders.htm#.
Two new offenders will be featured each month. Last month, one of the featured fugitives was captured and several tips are still being investigated on the other. See http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/director_staff/public_information/pr062111.pdf for details.
