Several Hundred Children Experience HFD “First Hand”
Several hundred children, ages 3 – 13 years old, received a first-hand look at the Houston Fire Department and what firefighters do during a special “KidVenture” summer day camp at the HFD training academy, July 7, 2011.
In the 2011’s “Hero’s Hideout” camp with the HFD, the children observed a high rise rescue by the Rescue Team and witnessed the Haz-Mat Team extinguish a live fire. They also saw a puppet show presented by Public Education and were presented with coloring books as a take-home gift. Fire Trainees who will be graduating from the academy next week, also interacted with the children.
A similar event with KidVenture was also held in 2009.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to share with the children what being a Houston Firefighter is all about,” said HFD’s Training Academy District Chief Joseph Gregory.” It was a chance to talk to them about fire safety and allow them to interact with the Firefighters.”
