BEAUMONT – A recent special report by Community College Week showed that Lamar Institute of Technology continues to excel in awarding associate of applied science degrees in the areas of Process Operating Technology and Instrumentation Technology.

LIT was recognized as the No. 2 producer of Associate Degrees for Process Operating Technology in CCW’s June 13, 2011, issue.

According to the report, the number of associate degrees awarded by LIT for Process Operating Technology increased from 88 in 2008-2009 to 89 in 2009-2010. That was an increase of 1 percent.

In the “Engineering Technologies” categories, LIT was ranked 34 for its Instrumentation Technology associate’s degrees. There was a 17 percent increase in Instrumentation graduates from 2008-2009 to 2009-2010. CCW’s report included both four- and two-year colleges and universities.

According to CCW’s analysis, “the number of associate degrees, one-year certificates, and two-year certificates reached an all-time high” in 2009-2010. The magazine reports that the increase over the past year is the “largest in recent history for all three award types.”

Lamar Institute of Technology, a member of The Texas State University System, offers more than 50 degrees and certificate programs. The school has experienced steady growth in its enrollment over the past several years, and continues to enjoy a good relationship with business and industry in the Southeast Texas area.
