Tishie B. Crear Kelley

Tishie B. Crear KelleyTishie B. Crear Kelley, 76, received her reward of eternal rest on Sunday, July 10, 2011, at her residence.

Tishie was born in Doyline, LA, August 14, 1934, to the late John L. and Myrtle Martin Frazier. She attended public schools in Galveston, and graduated from Central High School in 1952. Tishie attended Wallace Music School for piano and also took lessons from Mrs. Ada Butler.  She furthered her education by attending Galveston Business School, which led to her employment with Universal Life Insurance Co. for 28 years as agent and cashier before retirement.  She joined Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church in 1945. During her 65 years at Sunlight, she served in Mission #2; as a Youth Matron, President of BTU, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent, as well as the church Musician. She also served as secretary of the South Texas District Congress and was recognized for her dedication and service for over 60 years.  She was inducted into the Galveston County Sacred Music Hall of Fame and was honored by Alpha Theta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. as Mother of the Year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Amos Crear, Sr. and Isom Kelley, sisters; Letha Mae Tillman and Mary Lee Frazier; and grandson, Larry Darnell Cooper.  She leaves behind her legacy of love in the hearts of her devoted  children and in-laws; Jeanette (Lydell), Gwendolyn, Judith (Lennis) and Amos Jr. (Cherlyn);  adoptive son, Lance Cleveland (April);  aunt,  Bessie Mae Price; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; devoted friend,  John Thomas;   sisters-in law, brothers –in-law, nephews,  nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 4-8p.m. Friday, July 15th at Fields-Johnson Mortuary. A service celebrating her life and legacy will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Sunlight Baptist Church, 3501 Broadway with Pastor A.C. Tryon officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
