Alvin Live Concert Series Heats Up With Texas Johnny Brown

The warm summer night will get a lot hotter on August 2, 2011, when legendary local blues musician, Texas Johnny Brown takes the stage at Alvin Live, sponsored by Hawkins Lease Services.

Hosted by the Alvin Community College Foundation to raise funds for Broadcast Communications Department scholarships, the Alvin Live Concert Series features intimate performances by acclaimed local musicians.

“Texas Johnny Brown started playing music in the mid 1940’s and we are excited to give blues fans this rare opportunity to experience his music live in such an intimate and up-close performance,” said ACC Foundation Executive Director, Wendy Del Bello.

Brown, a staple in the Houston blues scene, has performed with other great blues musicians including Bobby “Blue” Bland, Junior Parker and Amor Milburn. He has been nominated for the W.C. handy Blues Award and earned the Best Texas Blues CD from Real Blues Magazine.

Sponsored by Hawkins Lease Services, this Alvin Live concert not only offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a blues legend, but also helps ACC students.

“Budget issues are creating challenges for colleges throughout the state and some of those expenses are being passed on to the students in the form or higher tuition and fees,” said Bill Lewis, chair of the ACC Broadcast Communications Department. “The proceeds from Alvin Live events helps us provide scholarships for some of our best students to try to ease these financial burdens.”

Tickets for the Alvin Live performance featuring Texas Johnny Brown are $30 each. Seating is limited so reservations should be made as soon as possible. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets call 281.756.3600.
