H-GAC Executive Director Jack Steele last week advised members of the board of directors that the cuts were pending. Listen MP3 RealPlayer
“You may have heard discussions in the past that funds are getting tight in that program,” Steele said. “And in fact they are.”
Steele said there will be at least a 17 percent cut in the availability of WorkForce funds to pay the cost of the region-wide Gulf Coast Careers WorkForce Center network.
He said the cuts being announced this week will be considered on Thursday by the Gulf Coast WorkForce Board and will be presented to the full board of directors at next month’s regular meeting.
“There is a likelihood, with a cut of this magnitude, that they may recommend realignment of career offices and a decrease in the number of career offices,” Steele said. “The one thing that I can safely say is that somebody will come before you and say please don’t close my office; close somebody else’s office over there.”
