TXDOT RESPONDS TO CALL TO CONSTRUCT GRAND PARKWAY SEGMENT E
“Three of four major construction contracts for SH 99-Segment E awarded by TTC”
HOUSTON – Today, the Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) awarded three of four contracts for Segment E of SH 99/Grand Parkway. The three contracts were let earlier this month. Segment E is a proposed 15.2 mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from IH 10 W to US 290. Webber, LLC, Hassell Construction Company, Inc. and J.D. Abrams, L.P. each secured a contract. TxDOT will accept bids for the fourth contract, which includes the construction of direct connectors between SH 99 and IH 10, next month.
In February of this year, Harris County officials rescinded their right to primacy for the development of the Grand Parkway projects in Harris County and urged TxDOT to move forward with construction of Segment E. Shortly after re-establishing TxDOT primacy, for the segments, the TTC allocated $350 million from the Texas Mobility Fund* for the construction of Grand Parkway Segment E . Webber, LLC secured the section north of Louetta Rd. to south of US 290 for $115.7 million. Hassell Construction Company, Inc. bid $32.3 million for the section north of Colonial Parkway to north of Morton Rd. and J.D. Abrams, L.P. secured the winning bid for the section north of Morton Rd. to south of FM 529 with a bid of $122.9 million.
“Development of the Grand Parkway is a priority for the Houston area and for the state of Texas,” said Ned Holmes, member of the Texas Transportation Commission. “Development of the Grand Parkway will alleviate congestion on multiple roadway segments on the state’s list of the 100 most congested, including six segments ranked in the 20 most congested.” Construction on the project is expected to start late August or early September and will last approximately 28 months.
