Galveston-Texas City Pilots Commission
News Release
Friday, July 29, 2011

The Board of Pilot Commissioners for the Ports of Galveston and Texas City Friday approved, without objection, the addition of a fuel adjustment charge based on actual pilot boat fuel costs for servicing ships arriving from or leaving to the Gulf,  a $50 increase in the fee for moving an oil rig, and a small increase in the "safety and education" fee.

The Pilots, at the board's urging, and under the leadership of  Presiding Officer Captain Wallace Hogan have been meeting with industry leaders to reach an agreement on the changes.  Again, there were no objections to the changes.

Board Chairman Vandy Anderson complimented both the Galveston/Texas City pilots and industry leaders for their work on the matter.

The board also received with regret the resignation of commissioner James Toups, due to health reasons, and welcomed new board member Dr. Linda R. Rounds.  Other board members include former Galveston County Commissioner Eddie Janek and Galveston Police Department interim Chief Henry Porretto, who is board secretary.

Pilot Board members are appointed by the Governor.
