GISD Back to School Fair to Take Place at Galveston Convention Center
on Thursday, August 11
 
Parents will be able to register children, sign up for day-care, receive free immunizations, gather school uniforms as well as learn about other services offered at the school district and in Galveston community  

GALVESTON, Texas – Galveston Independent School District hosts the Back to School Fair at the Galveston Island Convention Center (5600 Seawall  Boulevard) on Thursday, August 11 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Set-up will start at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. The fair will offer information for students, parents, and community members to get ready for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Back to School Fair features over 60 booths of district schools and services, as well as from the Galveston community. This year will feature dozens of vendors as well as an opportunity for parents to register their children for the new school year, collect school uniforms, sign-up for before- and after-school programs, receive free immunizations and much more. Entertainment will be provided by local spirit groups and choirs. Services offered at the Back to School Fair include:

  • School registration
  • Sign-up for before- and after-school activities through 21st Century Centers for Learning/ACE  program
  • Free immunizations
  • Transportation registration
  • Sign-up for free uniforms
  • Free school supplies available
  • Enroll your child in daycare
  • Learn about specialized programs in GISD schools such as AIM College and Career Prep  
  • Information on the Gifted and Talented program
  • Dropout prevention
  • Advanced Placement
  • Bilingual Program
  • New state assessments
  • Special Education
  • PSAT/SAT testing
  • College and Career Readiness
  • How to Cut Down on Bullying

Vendors outside of GISD are also invited to attend the event. Tables are limited to first come, first serve. Table admission is free and the deadline to sign-up is Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. Donations are also being accepted. Door prize drawings will be held and organizers are in need of school supplies and school uniforms for those in need.
