ACC Regents Begin Search for New Softball Coach
The search for a replacement for long-time ladies softball coach, Jennifer Hightower, officially began after Alvin Community College regents voted, at the July 28 board meeting, to fill the position as soon as possible.
Hightower was one of 12 ACC faculty and staff members who took the employee exit incentive program that was approved at the June board meeting. The plan, which was implemented to reduce expenses in the wake of state budget cuts, allowed for employees to receive a percentage of their salary, distributed over two to five years, if they left the college.
“Even though the softball coach position has not been officially posted, I’ve received calls and resumes from several highly-qualified candidates,” said ACC athletic director, Bill Lewis. “Now that the board has given us the go-ahead to fill the position, our goal is to find a new coach who will continue to grow the softball program and be a great addition to the instructional staff of the college.”
During the meeting, regents also ratified the process for reviewing the ACC mission statement and goals, which is mandated by the Southern Association of Colleges, the governing board for community colleges in our area. In addition, regents voted to continue using First National Bank of Alvin as the ACC check depository bank.
The next scheduled board of regents meeting will take place on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center on the ACC campus.
