Chief of emergency management will speak at 2011 Salute event
BEAUMONT – Nim Kidd, chief of emergency management for the state of Texas, will be the speaker for the 10th annual Salute to The Real American Heroes fund-raiser for The LIT Foundation.
The event will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Wesley United Methodist Church.
The event, which honors first responders and military personnel, raises funds for scholarships for LIT students who are majoring in criminal justice, emergency medical technology, regional police academy, regional fire academy and homeland security.
Chief Kidd was appointed as chief of emergency management in July 2010. Before his appointment, he worked for the San Antonio Fire Department in various capacities from 1993 until 2004, when he was named the emergency manager and homeland security coordinator for the City of San Antonio.
A graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, the chief also holds the Certified Emergency Manager designation from the International Association of Emergency Managers. He also holds Master Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Technician and Instructor certifications with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
