GALVESTON-Emily Lazare Shannon, 86, completed her life journey on Friday, July 29, 2011.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, Rev. Lorenzo William Sr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Emily resided in Galveston since the age of 3.  She attended Galveston Public Schools, graduating from Central High School.  Emily held numerous jobs in the service industry.  In her early twenties, Emily met and married Louis (Jim) Shannon, Jr. and from this union came their daughter, Elnora.  Emily united with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church as a young adult, where she remained a faithful member and active in the Women’s ministry, until her debilitating illness. 

Those who remain to celebrate her wonderful life are: her daughter, Elnora Shannon Banks; son-in-law, Christopher Banks (Houston, TX); two granddaughters, Stephanie Banks Packer (Terrence), (Moss Point, MS) and Christal Banks (Houston, TX), three great-grandchildren, Terranie Christina Packer, Terrence Christopher Louis Packer and Terriel Shannon Packer(Moss Point, MS); niece, Catherine James Compton (George), (Galveston, TX); cousin, Lynette Francis (San Francisco, CA); special friends, Linda Blakely, Winnona Keats, JoeAnn Matthews, Lennie Bowens, and  Mary Alliniece and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the following:  Alzheimer Foundation, Parkinson’s Foundation, or American Diabetes Association in memory of Emily Shannon.
