Mrs. Edith Lorraine Bowen Gooden was born July 22, 1906 in Galveston, Texas. She attended public schools in Galveston, and matriculated at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
Mrs. Gooden accepted Christ at an early age, and remained a faithful member of Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church for over ninety years.
Edith was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of fifty -five years, Lonnie John Gooden, Sr.; daughter, Lonnie Mae McQuirter (Dr. James B., deceased); and sister, Freelander Bowen Wilson.
Edith Gooden entered into eternal rest on August 13, 2011. She leaves to cherish memories; daughter, Dr. Freda Celestine Richardson (James T., deceased); son, Dr. Lonnie John Gooden, Jr.; daughter, Dr. Genevieve G. Gaynor (Dr. Michael M., deceased); sister-in-law, Ernestine Gooden Ware; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a myriad of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will be receiving friends during a visitation beginning at 11 AM at Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 902 28th St., Galveston, TX on Saturday, August 20, 2011, with the home going service starting at 1:00 pm with Rev. Steffon Arrington officiating and Rev. Perrie Joy Jackson eulogist. Until the trumpet sound, she shall rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Galveston, TX.
