College’s new choral course open to community residents

PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College (SJC) Central is offering a new choral ensemble course that is available for SJC students, and for non-students who are at least 16 years old.

The Concert Choir Ensemble will meet weekly on Tuesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., in the Corbin Recital Hall of the Monte Blue Music Building, located at 8060 Spencer Hwy., in Pasadena. The ensemble will meet in the Fall semester from Aug. 30 through Dec. 13 and will present major works for choir and orchestra from the standard repertoire.

Participation is open to all interested singers ages 16 and up, and enrollment at SJC is not required. In addition to rehearsing and preparing music for public performance, attention will be given to the development of choral vocal skills, so those who enjoy singing as well as those who wish to improve their singing abilities are encouraged to enroll.

The Concert Choir Ensemble will be lead by Dr. Paul Busselberg, Central campus choir director. “There is a strong history of high-caliber choral music at San Jacinto College, and we’re thrilled to extend this opportunity to the community,” Busselberg commented. “We look forward to partnering with local orchestras in our performances, including the Pasadena Philharmonic, as we present major works from the choral literature.”

Current SJC students may register for the ensemble and earn academic credit. The fee for non-students is $95, and registration is available through the College’s Continuing and Professional Development division on the Internet at or by calling 281-476-1838.
