Several HISD Schools Impacted by Leaks in City Water System

Several HISD schools in South Houston continue to experience low water pressure due to the City of Houston’s water leaks in the area.  The schools affected are:  Sterling High School, Thomas Middle School and Law, Caldwell and Frost elementary schools.

At this point, HISD classes are still being held as usual in these buildings.  HISD has delivered bottled drinking water to these schools and provided portable toilets at each location.  HISD officials are closely monitoring the air-conditioning in all schools and have dispatched waters tankers where needed to supply the cooling towers.

The City has been made aware of the situation, and we will continue to work with them as they address the water issues impacting our schools.  They are assisting HISD by providing several of their water tankers at some of the affected schools.

If the situation worsens, HISD is putting together a plan of action to relocate those students affected to nearby schools to ensure their safety and comfort.  Any such actions would be immediately communicated to parents by phone.

HISD Media Relations Specialist Denisse Cantu will be available for interviews from 11a.m. to noon at the Hattie Mae White Educational Center (4400 W. 18th Street).
