News Release
Thursday, August 25, 2011

Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed suspect shot at two off-duty Houston police officers at 6969 South Loop East about 12:30 a.m. today (Aug. 25).

Officers C. Aldrete and F. Gallegos, Jr. did not discharge their duty weapons and were not injured in this incident.  Both were sworn in as officers in November 2009 and are assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Officers K. Meek and M. Coleman reported:

Officers Aldrete and Gallegos, off-duty and in plain clothes, had just arrived at the Plum Creek apartment somplex at the above location and saw a suspicious male hiding from them behind a dumpster in the parking lot.  Both officers then approached the suspect, who hid behind a vehicle.    As both officers got closer, the suspect pulled out a pistol, fired once at one of the officers and then fled on foot through the complex.  Officers Aldrete and Gallegos did not have a chance to identify themselves or take any police action.

The suspect is described only as a young black male.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
