HISD Preparing for Transition to STAAR
Board President Paula Harris discusses how district is preparing
for the new statewide assessment program
The September edition of HISD Board President Paula Harris' Student Achievement Show will feature the district’s efforts to prepare staff, parents and students for the new statewide assessment exam known as STAAR. The show also includes an interview with students from the Booker T. Washington High School for Engineering Professions who recently returned from White Sands, New Mexico to test a rocket they have been building for the past year.

Sunday, September 11, 18 and 25 at 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 8:30 p.m.
Why: HISD Board President Paula Harris is committed to showcasing the academic achievements of HISD students and highlighting the many district wide initiatives that are aimed at boosting student achievement and preparing students to be prepared for college and a career once they graduate from high school. An executive with an engineering background working for an oilfield service company, Harris is particularly interested in getting students excited about math and science at an early age. Her “Student Achievement Show” airs monthly with a new topic and guests from HISD schools including students, teachers, and principals.
