Citizen Training Course Aids Community Disaster Preparedness
Galveston, Texas – Galvestonians can become trained in disaster preparedness and response through the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Program next month. CERT is an “all hazards” approach to personal and community disaster preparedness that equips members of neighborhoods, community organizations, or workplaces with basic response skills. Fully trained citizens are called upon to assist professional responders with community emergencies.
CERT training consists of classes in disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism, and team organization. This course concludes with a realistic disaster exercise.
