The Texas City Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to adopt the district’s 2011 maintenance and operations and debt service tax rates.
The school board voted unanimously to adopt a maintenance and operations tax rate of $1.04 per $100 valuation.
The school board voted unanimously to adopt a rate of $0.2553 per $100 valuation for payment on the district’s bond issues, levying a total 2011 tax rate of $1.2953 per $100 valuation.
The total rate reflects an increase compared to 2010, which levied a tax of $1.2886 per $100 valuation. The entirety of the increase is designated for payments on debts, while the maintenance and operation portion remains unchanged.
The school board voted unanimously to renew a contract with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office for school-based law enforcement services. The sheriff’s office provides school liaison officers through the contract.
The school board voted unanimously to award a bid for miscellaneous re-roofing and repair projects for the district to S.W. Walton, Inc. as primary contractor. A secondary contract was awarded to John A. Walker Roofing Company.
The school board took no action regarding approval of redistricting criteria and the adoption of a redistricting plan. The plan would adjust the boundaries of single-member representative districts of the school board to balance population levels between each district. The item will be brought before the board for consideration at a future date.
The school board voted unanimously to approve the hiring of new personnel. The item was discussed in executive session.
